Earn your seaside stripes this year by taking part in the Bude Christmas morning swim! Every year hundreds of brave folks pitch up at Crooklets Beach for a refreshing dip to help raise money for the oldest Surf Life Saving Club in the Northern Hemisphere. This year organisers are aiming for their biggest ever turnout - over 600 sponsored swimmers! Sponsorship forms will be available from Zuma Jays and from the Bude Surf Life Saving Club website.
A great Christmas tradition for swimmers and spectators, the annual swim takes place in memory of Mike Moyles - a lifetime supporter of the Life Saving Club.
Here's the scoop:
When: The swim will start at 11:00am on Christmas Day. Arrive early for the pre-swim warm-up.
Grin and bare it: Swimmers of all ages (from 8 up if accompanied by an adult) are welcome to take part in the mad-cap-splash but only those 12 and under are allowed to wear wetsuits! To stave off the cold, swimmers will be led in a group warm-up on the beach by the club’s resident fitness trainer, David Herman, before the klaxon sounds at 11:00am to signal the dash for the waves.
Competition: This year there will be a competition for the swimmer with the best Christmas hat. A winner will be chosen from among the under 13s, under 21s and ‘senior splashers’.
We'll be getting into the Christmas spirit at Tommy Jacks! Swimmers, spectators and jolly-makers can stop-by on Christmas day from 10:00am - 1:00pm. See you there for warm toddies and snacks!
