Tommy's Heroes

Tommy Jacks is the result of our life-long love affair with Bude. We love everything it stands for and the awesome community that make it such a special place. We have been truly humbled by the support we have received since we started on Tommy’s journey so ‘Tommy’s Heroes’ is our way of saying ‘thank you’, and of giving the local community a well-deserved helping hand.

Tommy’s Heroes is based on a token scheme - for each token issued and deposited into our special collection boxes, we'll donate £1 to the relevant 'Tommy’s Hero'. Tommy’s Heroes are registered charities or special individuals/groups who are doing really brilliant things. There's only one rule: they must be based in Bude or the surrounding area.

Tokens are issued:

When you eat at Sea Jacks Restaurant (one per table) and when you kip in our snooze pads for one night or more, and choose to reuse your towels (one per night).

How much will be donated?

The amount we donate will depend on how many tokens we collect, but we estimate that at least £3,000 per quarter will be split between our three heroes.

Meet Tommy’s Heroes...

Tommy’s Heroes have been selected from nominations made by the local community. They are registered charities or special individuals/groups who are doing remarkable things. There's only one rule: they must be based in Bude or the surrounding area. Tommy’s current heroes are:

Bude Waveriders
The Budewaveriders Club is a hub for the surfing community of Bude and North Cornwall. It all began when two local parents started to wonder why they were taking their budding offspring to Croyde for surf comps when Bude has some of the best waves in the UK - it was bonkers! Today, the Bude Waveriders is Britain’s largest surf club. Members, of all ages, are invited to get together, all for the love of surf. Find out more…

3rd Bude Rowan Scout Group
The 3rd Bude Rowan Scout Group began in September 2013, due to the massive demand in the area. Run by volunteers, the group already has 65 children who attend, all seeking to have fun and learn valuable life skills. The group is run solely by volunteers. They will use their Tommy’s Heroes donation to kit out the brand new group with everything from camping equipment to simple things like pens, paper and games. Find out more…

Community Ambulance First Responders
The Community Ambulance First Responders were set up over 11 years ago to help support the local ambulance service, attending serious incidents where it is felt that they can get there quicker than the nearest road ambulance. The volunteers are on-call 24hrs a day, providing a vital service to the community. As the ambulance service does not provide a lot of the equipment these guys need, they buy it from their own pockets and also pay to fuel their cars. They are desperate to buy GPS systems, so they can be on scene as quickly, and as safely, as possible. Find out more…

Nominate a Hero...

We will select three special causes each quarter; they may be registered charities or special individuals/groups who are doing really brilliant things. There's only one rule: they must be based in Bude or the surrounding area.

Please email hello@tommyjacks.co.uk or message us via Facebook to nominate your favourite cause. Please include a link to their website or Facebook page, and explain why you think they deserve to be one of Tommy’s Heroes. We will contact you to confirm that we have received your nomination, and may ask for further information.

Cheers!

Tommy Jacks :)
