Tommy's Hero: Community Ambulance First Responders

The most-established of Tommy’s Heroes, the Community Ambulance First Responders were set up over 11 years ago to help support the local ambulance service, attending serious incidents where it is felt that they can get there quicker than the nearest road ambulance.

Often the first to arrive after a 999 call, the responders truly are modern-day heroes. They are on-call 24hrs a day, providing a vital service to the community. As volunteers, these dedicated guys and gals give up their own time to provide a vital service to the community; two of the team were awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for their efforts.

As the ambulance service does not provide a lot of the equipment these guys need, they buy it from their own pockets and also pay to fuel their cars. They are desperate to buy GPS systems, so they can be on scene as quickly, and as safely, as possible - this is where they will invest their Tommy’s Heroes donation.

“The Community Ambulance First Responders provide a vital service to the local community. They are often the first to arrive after a 999 call, and they desperately need your support to keep going.”

Support Bude's Community Ambulance First Responders

Tommy’s Heroes is our way of giving the local community a well-deserved helping hand. It's based on tokens: for each token issued and deposited into our special collection boxes, we'll donate £1 to the relevant 'Tommy’s Hero'.

We’ll give you a token when you eat at Sea Jacks Restaurant (one per table) and when you kip in our snooze pads for one night or more, and choose to reuse your towels (one per night). Simply pop your token in the collection box by reception, and we’ll donate £1 to help keep Bude’s Community Ambulance First Responders responding (try saying that fast!)

Nominate Your Hero...

We will select three special causes each quarter; they may be registered charities or special individuals/groups who are doing really brilliant things. There's only one rule: they must be based in Bude or the surrounding area.

Please email hello@tommyjacks.co.uk or message us via Facebook to nominate your favourite cause. Please include a link to their website or Facebook page, and explain why you think they deserve to be one of Tommy’s Heroes. We will contact you to confirm that we have received your nomination, and may ask for further information.
